About the Vancouver Island Leadership Conference

The VILC is a VIU business student-run leadership conference that is designed to heighten the learning experience for students and give them an experience they will never forget. The conference is able to aid students through inspiring speakers, fun workshops, and great activities, as there is only so much students can learn from a textbook.

Conference Overview

The Vancouver Island Leadership Conference is a three-day conference designed to inspire, encourage, and motivate student delegates to make leadership a part of their everyday lives. Participants will spend their time learning to enhance SYNERGY, be INSPIRED, and become DEDICATED outside the classroom. Through experienced keynote speakers, interactive workshops, and activities, we aim to encourage growth as leaders within individuals.

Conference Objectives

Quality Keynote Speakers are our main focus this year. This year we have several proposed Keynote speakers in mind. With the proper funding we will be able to choose those best suited for our leadership conference. Thus far our proposed speakers are Warren McDonald, and Dr. Chris Johnson (Dr Laugh)

Networking creates opportunities for students unavailable to them during regular class activities. Students will be able to engage in conversations with students from not only across campus, but across the country as well. Sponsors are invited to attend portions of the event, including the Wine and Cheese. This allows for the community to be more involved with Vancouver Island University, and creates the opportunity for students to network with local businesses.

More information about the VILC is available at www.vilc.ca.  To find out how to register for the conference, go to www.vilc.ca/registration.htm.

The First-Ever Mal-U LC was held November 9 & 10, 2007, and was a huge success. It brought in delegates from all programs at VIU (formerly Malaspina), as well as students from the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island. It featured highly renowned speakers that offered great personal experiences and advice. It included a wine and cheese with sponsoring businesses and individuals, a Tacky Tourist-themed Pub Crawl, and a Starlit Night Cocktail Dinner.  It was a great chance for student to interact and network with each other and potential employers. The conference as a whole was created to expand the minds and capabilities of those who attended.
